Cool outfits for your summer holiday
There’s nothing quite like knowing your summer holiday is coming up and you’ve got nothing but two whole weeks of sun, sand and relaxation to look forward to. But wherever you are going it’s important to make sure you pack all the right things so you can dress for every occasion while you are away.
It can be hard knowing where to begin, but the key to packing successfully is to start by sorting out the clothes you already have. Cotton items are all ideal as they will keep you cool, but you may find that by going through your current wardrobe you have some essential items missing, so it might be worth making a shopping list at the same time.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to buy whatever you need before you go away; it’s easy to leave everything until the last minute but a frenzied shopping trip tends to take all the fun out of it! Try on plenty of light and airy clothing when you go out - and don’t fall into the trap of ignoring things because you’ve never worn them before. You might be surprised at how good they look once you’re wearing them.
Think about the different occasions you will be dressing for as well. A pair of shorts and a vest top will be ideal for days at the beach; you can wear your swimming costume underneath and be in the water in just a few moments. But if you are going out for a nice meal in the evening you will want something that looks good as well as keeping you cool.
A long sleeveless dress works exceptionally well as it looks very elegant but keeps the air circulating around you as you walk. They are also fairly inexpensive so it’s worth picking up more than one in different designs. They don’t take up too much room in your suitcase either.
Sarongs, kaftans and dresses all serve the same purpose of being extremely versatile and suitable for wearing at all times of the day as required. They are also very easy to wash by hand if they need freshening up. An hour or two in the sun - hanging over a balcony perhaps - is all they will require to be ready to wear again.
The other big benefit of taking these items is that they don’t always need to be mixed and matched with anything else. You can buy sarongs which are full length for example, as well as smaller ones to tie around your waist and match up with a vest top.
Either way your suitcase will be much lighter. And when you get there, all you need is a quick change and you’ll be ready for anything - whether that’s a quick swim, a long cool drink in the local restaurant or a leisurely walk around town.
